THE AADIL MOERAT BURSARY FUND

This fund was established in memory of the late Aadil Moerat, a general practitioner who tragically lost his life while working in the townships in January 1998. Dr Moerat, the son of former principal, the recently departed Mr MN Moerat, was an ex-student of the school. At the memorial service of Mr Moerat, the suggestion was made by Norah, his daughter, that a fitting way for members of the SP community to pay tribute would be by contributing to the fund. The award would be a lasting tribute to a young man who epitomised the spirit of the school motto: NOT TO BE SERVED BUT TO SERVE.

Enquiries regarding application for the bursary, or for making a donation to the fund, should be directed to Ms Carin Matz at carinmatz@gmail.com or to the school itself. Donations may be handed in at the school bursar’s office. Alternatively, if donors prefer to make a direct deposit, the fund account number is FNB 74011925854, Plumstead branch. The name is the ‘Aadil Moerat Medical Bursary Fund’. The fund secretary, Ms Patricia Coates, should be advised of such donations telephonically at school. Ms Matz may also be notified via email.

The trustees would like to thank all donors who have already contributed so handsomely.

In 2010 three bursaries of R6000 each were awarded to the following medical students: Jahaan Abrahams (1st year MBChB - UCT), Iesrafeel Abbas (1st year BSc (Occupational Therapy) - UCT) and Simthembile Mjekula (1st year B Pharm - UWC).

In 2009 two bursaries of R6000 each were awarded. Both students, Ms Aeesah Sekason and Ms Haseena Sablay, are studying medicine at Stellenbosch University.
