CHESS

2011: TERM 1

SP did well playing in the C-League of a Southern Suburbs group. The team won games against Rondebosch Boys’ High, Sans Souci Girls’High and Oude Molen. The games against Pinelands and Reddam were drawn.

The team members are Abduragheem Slamang (captain), Michael January (playing in first and second positions), George Gabriels, Denino Plaatjies and Gary Makanjee.

TERM 2

SP was promoted to the B-League. The team won two games (against SACS and Oude Molen), drew against Wynberg Boys’ High and lost to Pinelands and Rondebosch Boys.

Ms Patricia Coates, manager of the team, says, “Playing against good teams, the SP boys had an enjoyable and challenging term of chess.”

The team played five games, winning two, losing two and drawing one. “This was the last season for stalwarts George Gabriels, Michael January and captain Abduragheem Slamang. They developed into a challenging team, and every game was played enthusiastically and enjoyed,” said Ms Patricia Coates. “A sincere thanks to this trio.”
