CODE OF CONDUCT FOR LEARNERS
The code of conduct is subject to the South African Schools’ Act. The Purpose of the code is to entrust learners with the responsibility of maintaining and enhancing the image of the South Peninsula High School community. Learners must behave correctly at all times at school, at school functions and wherever they represent the school. They must behave on public transport and public places in such a manner as not to bring discredit to the name of the South Peninsula High School community.
1. Behaviour of Learners
It is expected of learners that they respect their educators, non-teaching staff and other learners. Learners must respect the property of others. Learners are deemed to represent the school whether inside or outside the school and are always subject to the school rules and disciplinary procedures.
1.1 Absenteeism
When a learner is absent on a particular day, the parent must contact the school by telephone, facsimile or email. Absentees must, on their return, bring with them a letter in an envelope from their parent/s indicating the reason for their absence. The letter must also indicate a contactable telephone number.
The parent must address the envelope to the principal. In the top right-hand corner of the envelope the full name and surname and grade of the learner must be indicated.
1.2 Bunking
The school will inform parents of learners who bunk classes. The learner will be sent to Friday afternoon detention. Should bunking persist, the Governing Body (GB) will be informed for further disciplinary action.
1.3 Possession and use of drugs (including alcohol)
Possession and/or use of drugs is classified as serious misconduct. Learners who are alleged to have been in possession of or who have used drugs will be reported to the GB for disciplinary action. The matter will be reported to the police.
1.4 Smoking
Smoking is not allowed.
- Students caught smoking will be reported to the police.
- Their parents will be called in.
- Offenders will be put on for Friday afternoon detention.
1.5. Vandalism
Acts of vandalism will not be tolerated. Vandalism includes defacing desks and walls. Writing on desks and walls of the school is not allowed. Parents will be liable for damages incurred by learners. The school has the right to refer cases of vandalism to the GB.
1.6 General playground conduct
Learners must respect one another. Learners must respect the environment and must not litter. Swearing and abusive language in the playground will not be tolerated.
1.7 General classroom conduct
An atmosphere conducive to learning must prevail. Learners must respect their educators and other learners. Learners must co-operate. Learners must keep their classroom clean and tidy. Swearing and abusive language will not be tolerated.
1.8 Fighting (including bullying)
Under no circumstances will fighting be tolerated at school. It is considered as serious misconduct. Fighting may be referred to the GB. Recommendation for expulsion could follow.
1.9 Theft
Stealing will not be tolerated.
1.10 Cell phones and other electronic items (including i-Pods and mp3 players)
Cell phones and other electronic items are not allowed at school. Cell phones and other electronic items will be confiscated until the end of term. In addition, a monetary fine will be imposed. Parents will have to collect the cell phones or other electronic items. The school has the right to search students for cell phones and other electronic items.
1.11 Homework
Learners must present their homework on the due date. They must have the required books in class. Failure to present homework or books will result in afternoon detention
1.12 Traveling to and from school
Learners should adhere to the school rules while traveling to and from school or wherever they are in school uniform. No fighting on transport and vandalising of transport will be tolerated. Learners are not allowed to use Old Kendal Road.
1.13 Prefects
Learners must respect the authority of the prefects.
1.14 Punctuality
Learners must be in their lines before the second siren and must arrive at their class punctually.
GENERAL APPEARANCE
HAIR (Boys): Must be short and neat.
HAIR (Girls): Hair that is shoulder length must be tied. Hair accessories can be only black or brown.
NAILS: Short and neat. No colour varnish.
MAKE-UP: No make-up to be worn.
JEWELLERY: No rings. No chains No bracelets. Only the girls are permitted to wear earrings - one pair of gold or silver studs or small hoops only on the earlobe. No nose rings are allowed. Only conventional watches are to be worn. Medic - Alert apparel, where required, must be worn at all times.
UNIFORM
GIRLS’ SUMMER DRESS CODE (1ST AND 4TH TERM ONLY):

The school summer dress:
|
Belts are to be worn at all times through dress loops. No writing on dresses will be allowed. The appearance of the dress must be neat and tidy. The dress length should be approximately 3cm above the knee.

Jersey:
|
The school maroon jersey has no buttons, but has one gold stripe around the V neck The appearance of the jersey must be neat and tidy. Broken jerseys must be stitched. No other jersey or top may be worn under the school jersey.

Socks / Pantyhose:
|
Girls are allowed to wear plain white ankle socks or flesh tone pantyhose. White socks with logos or stripes will not be permitted.

Shoes:
|
Plain black school shoes. Wearing black takkies or other shoes is not acceptable and parents should endeavour to send shoes away for repair as soon as possible.

|
White scarf:
|
A medium size plain white triangle scarf is allowed for religious reasons only.
|
|
Track top:
|
Only the school track top may be worn.
|
|
Blazer:
|
Single-breasted navy blue blazer. School badge on breast pocket.
|
|
Rain jacket:
|
Navy blue, maroon or black rain jacket. To be worn only when it rains
|

BOYS’ SUMMER D
|
Trousers:
|
Long grey trousers. Length of trousers must have a neat appearance on the shoe. Boys are allowed to wear long grey trousers with a plain black belt. Buckle must not draw attention.

Shirt:
|
Plain white long sleeved or short sleeved shirts with conventional collars. Boys may only wear plain white T- shirts under their shirts.

|
Jersey:
|
The school maroon jersey.
|
|
Tie:
|
The school tie.
|
|
Shoes:
|
Plain black school shoes. Wearing black takkies or other shoes is not acceptable. If shoes are broken, parents should endeavour to send them for repairs as soon as possible.

Grey or white socks.

Track top:
|
Only the school track top may be worn.

RESS CODE ( 1st AND 4th TERM ONLY)

- 4-panel navy skirt or 6-panel navy skirt (no straight cut skirts or pencil-stripe skirt; length of skirt – on or below the knee.)
- White anklet socks (must cover ankles) or black pantyhose.
- White shirt.
- Black shoes.
- School tie.
- Maroon school jersey or school tracksuit top or navy blue blazer.
- School beanie and scarf (if beanie and scarf are worn).
- Navy blue rain jacket.
***Tracksuit pants will not be allowed as part of winter uniform.
BOYS’ WINTER DRESS CODE (TERM 2 AND 3)
- Grey flannel long pants.
- White shirt.
- School tie.
- Black shoes.
- Grey socks or white socks
- Maroon school jersey or school tracksuit top or navy blue blazer.
- Navy blue rain jacket.
- School beanie and scarf (if beanie and scarf are worn).
