INTER-HOUSE 2011
SP’s annual inter-house was held on 9 and 10 February. As usual the two days produced great excitement, as well as some outstanding achievements. Five records were broken, one by Yusuf Dollie of Mimosa in the Boys’ u/19 Discus, one by Darren Hare of Protea in the Boys’ u/15 800m, one by Darryl van Sittert of Mimosa in the Boys’ u/14 1500m, and two by Azalean relay teams, in the Boys u/15 and u/19 4x100m. Last year’s champions, Mimosa, held on to first spot ahead of last year’s runners-up, Kendal, while Protea and Azalea swopped places from last year. One feature of this year’s results was that the points gap between 1st and 2nd, and 3rd and 4th, was greater than it was last year. The points were as follows: Mimosa - 584, Kendal - 518,5 ; Protea - 450 ; Azalea - 428,5. An innovation was the introduction of hurdles as an event for the very first time.
As is the custom, the inter-house was preceded the previous day by the march past, with the athletes marching around the quad, to the cheers of the non-athletes. Captains are introduced and they and the house masters say a few words of encouragement to their house and challenge to their opponents.
Below are some photos of the march past.

Of course, nothing would be possible without the preparatory hard work done by the sports co-ordinator, Ms Nicole MacNamara, and the house masters, as seen below.
