INTER-SCHOOL 2010
On Thursday 25 February SP once again did battle with Steenberg, Mondale and the rest of the schools in the A-Section of the False Bay Zone Athletics region. Once again SP came 3rd! Mondale ran away with the victory (678 points), with Steenberg a distant 2nd (525). SP had 323 points. Then came Heathfield, Grassy Park, Gordon High (from the Strand), Norman Henshilwood and Westridge. Three of our athletes went all the way to the National Championships in Potchefstroom, representing the Western Cape. They are Chad Beukes (400m hurdles), Quinton Appollis (200m) and Keisha Wentzel (400m), seen below with Nabeelah Parker, who made the Western Province team. SP will certainly give the front-runners a run for their money next year with the implementation of three measures, namely introducing hurdles at the inter-house, encouraging more athletes to join Athletics clubs and introducing a winter training schedule. In preparation for this year’s meeting, SP, thanks to Dr Cleophas and Miss Smith, ensured that the athletes were physically and physiologically prepared - they were treated to an enlightening and educational talk by ex-student Dr Tracy (Kolbe) Alexander about the importance of nutrition and the correct warm-up and stretching techniques, and they had sessions at Constantia VirginActive Gym, supervised by ex-student Gino Frank.
