MATRIC RESULTS 2009

South Peninsula had 196 candidates for the 2009 matriculation exam, of which 144 (73%) obtained the “Bachelor’s Pass”, equivalent to the old University exemption. This means that these candidates qualify to enter for a Bachelor’s degree at a University. A further 46 (23%) qualified to enter for as Diploma at a University of Technology or Technical College.

There were some highly commendable individual performances, particularly from top student Melissa de Waal, who obtained 5 subject dis- tinctions (A passes) (in Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Engineering Graphics and Design and Life Orientation), and Giovanni Amansure, Ismail Brey and Andrea Urion, who obtained 4.

In addition to Melissa’s A-aggregate, and the 26 B’s, there were also 60 C passes. The top 5 students were Melissa (82,33%) (former student of Square Hill Primary), Mishka Prinsloo (77,83%) (John Graham Primary), Giovanni Amansure (77,5%) (St Anthony’s), Ismail Brey (77,33%) (John Graham) and Tawfeeq Titus (76,33%) (Southfield). At an  awards ceremony at the official residence of Premier Helen Zille SP was presented with an award of R2000 by the WCED in the following category:  Highest Subject distinction average and highest number of candidates who meet the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the context of study. This is in relation to the total number of students at the school.

There were 27 students who obtained A’s in Life Orientation, 21 in Mathematics, 12 in Afrikaans, 11 in Mathematical Literacy, 5 in Life Sciences and Engineering Graphics and Design, 4 in Geography, 3 in History and 1 each in English, Economics, Dance and Accounting - 92 subject distinctions altogether.
