SOFTBALL
The softball season was filled with mixed fortunes. We played three games: winning one, losing one and claiming default points for one game. The organization of school softball is in a very unfavourable condition and reflects the chaotic state of affairs in school sport.
Nevertheless, our girls are eager and keen and displayed a fighting spirit throughout the season.
One of our girls, Aadilah Gallie, has been selected for the South African squad to play in Prague later this year. Most of our girls play for Ottery Softball Club and show promise of performing better next season. It is an advantage that the grade eight classes have softball as part of the physical education curriculum.
The regular players were Chantal Jacobs, Kendall Cozett, Rafeeqah Keet, Aadilah Gallie, Cindy Jacobs, Lisa Noble, Kim Koopman, Ayesha Cassiem and Aisha Diedericks. A promising junior pitcher, Aishh Simpson, made her appearance once and it is hoped that she will develop into a pitcher of form. Some very memorable moments will remain with us: Chantal’s blue mark on her leg, Cindy’s quirks and the jovial Mr Price, our dependable transport agent.
Hopefully we will be able to field a baseball team in conjunction with the softball team. We are determined to improve on our performance of this season. Hopefully, we will have a home game next season and have our revenge on Norman Henshilwood. At the same time we thank Ms R. Cloete for organising the games and Mr. F. Cleophas for taking charge of us.
