2009 SWIMMING GALA
Entries for the gala this year were the highest in ten years. Most encouraging was the number of participants in Grade 8 and 9. A total of 112 students entered. Times were recorded for all races. Although the emphasis was on participation, the fastest time recorded at Wynberg Baths this year was 13.4 seconds by Jason Wilson (Protea – Bu/16) in the freestyle event over a distance of 25m. The fastest female swimmer was Nabeelah Diedericks (Mimosa – Gu/17) who recorded a time of 15.7 seconds over 25m , also in the freestyle event. Other swimmers with notable achievements were Ridaa Isaacs (Protea-Bu/19 : Freestyle), Ryan Williams (Azalea – Bu/16 : Freestyle), Farzaanah Diedericks (Kendal – Gu/14: Freestyle + Breaststroke) and Ashleigh Wessels (Kendal-Gu/19: Freestyle). The winning house for 2009 was Kendal House.
